JBS participates in COP25 Official Panel

The Brazilian Coalition on Climate, Forests and Agriculture participated in the 2019 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP25) in Madrid in December and JBS Brazil’s Director of Sustainability, Marcio Nappo was amongst them to take part in a panel on the ongoing discussions on transparency and traceability in Brazilian livestock to eliminate deforestation.

He took part alongside:

  • Andre Guimarães, Co-facilitator of the Brazilian Coalition and Executive Director of the Amazon Environmental Research Institute (IPAM)
  • Brenda Brito, senior researcher at Amazon Institute of Man and Environment – IMAZON
  • Marcello Brito, Chairman of ABAG (Brazilian Agribusiness Association)’s Board of Directors

The Coalition was amongst almost 27,000 delegates attending the annual climate conference from nations around the world. It had organised several high-level meetings and panels on topics such as:

  • Innovation in financing agriculture
  • Nature-based solutions to climate change
  • The road to post-2020 climate and biodiversity targets

Marcio Nappo commented on his involvement: “The Coalition and JBS share a belief that agribusiness, NGOs and academia should work together not only to end deforestation but also to build a sustainable cattle raising in Amazon and improving the local population livelihood.  It was an honour to join the coalition and partners to share knowledge and discuss solutions to enable Brazil to reach its climate and biodiversity targets. I look forward to being involved in this year’s COP26 held in the UK.”
