JBS Campo Grande II to be largest Latam beef plant

Planned R$150M investment will double production and generate 2300 new jobs

JBS Brazil has announced plans to double the processing capacity and workforce of its EU-approved Campo Grande II unit in Mato Grosso do Sul, making it the largest beef plant in Latin America and one of the top three largest JBS facilities worldwide.

During a recent visit by Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the Company announced it will invest R$150M (c. £23.23M) enabling the daily processing volume to increase from 2,200 to 4,400 animals in a year’s time, with employees jumping from 2,300 to 4,600.

In addition to meeting increasing global demand for Brazil beef exports in China and beyond, the investment also consolidates JBS Brazil’s position as an economic and social engine.

According to a survey by FIPE (Foundation Institute for Economic Research), released last year, JBS and its production networks are linked to 2.1% of Brazilian GDP and contribute to generating 2.73% of the country’s jobs. In Mato Grosso do Sul alone, the impact reaches 3.79% of GDP and contributes to the creation of 7.2% of jobs in the state. JBS directly employs 155,000 people throughout Brazil, including 17,300 in the state which has 25 beef, chicken and pork plants.
