JBS holds 2nd Annual Sustainability Summit

JBS’ 2nd Global Sustainability meeting was held between the 20th and 23rd August.

It took place in Sao Paulo close to JBS headquarters and was attended by the leaders of JBS business units from Brazil, USA, Europe, Australia, Canada and Mexico.

Several important topics were discussed at the meeting included water, animal welfare, energy, greenhouse gas emissions, use and recycling of plastic, employee safety and broader CSR strategy. Policies and practices across strategic themes were taken into consideration for each of JBS’ international business units.

JBS Global CEO Gilberto Tomazoni attended the meeting and spoke about the importance of the sustainability initiatives taking place. “Sustainability is a priority for JBS, and we are dedicated to ensuring we act responsibly and expect the same standards from our supply chain. Our people across the business are committed to best practice. It is a goal of ours to be an industry leader for the future of sustainable meat production, so we are constantly asking ourselves, what do we need to do to be the best?”

JBS Sustainability Director Marcio Nappo added that JBS is already at the forefront of several sustainability initiatives and  that the company is always looking for new ways to spread its vision of sustainability within the market, to investors and to consumers. This includes the development of global policies for issues that are fundamental to our industry such as animal welfare and human rights.

Cameron Bruett, Head of Institutional Relations at JBS United States told the group that the global action puts JBS ahead of other companies. “Consumer behaviour is changing and requires, besides the product, strong messages behind the sustainability. It is a priority of the company that we are aligned on the importance of sustainability and treat it as a priority. We see this not only enhancing our reputation but contributing towards our growth.”
