The JBS Green Platform

Technology is at the heart of these programs. The newly established JBS Green Platform utilises the very latest in blockchain advancements which will enable the Company to fully track the movements of all cattle, both direct and indirect, in its supply chain within Amazon Biome by 2025. Moreover, JBS is committed to sharing its monitoring technology and its responsible sourcing policy with the wider value chain – including stakeholders in the food industry, livestock producers, financial institutions, and the agribusiness sector.

The data generated from daily analysis covering more than 50,000 supplier ranches has helped JBS to issue commercial embargoes on 9,000 ranches whose status is non-compliance with the company’s procurement policies. By harvesting critical data and efficiently cross-referencing it across its supply chain, JBS can go further to tackle the causes of illegal deforestation than any previous legislative initiative.

The entire JBS Green Platform initiative will be implemented over four key phases:

Phase 1 – By the end of 2020, the blockchain platform will be fully developed and we will begin our new strategy of communication across the supply chain.

Phase 2 – Commencement of analysis of direct suppliers in the state of Mato Grosso, and notification of the project to the entire livestock farming sector.

Phase 3 – Expansion of the project to include other states locates in the Amazon biome.

Phase 4 – Mandatory adherence whereby the Green Platform becomes a condition for selling cattle to JBS.

Commenting on the launch of the JBS Green Platform, Renato Costa, CEO of Friboi, the Company’s beef business unit, said: “We are confident that our industry, and all other important stakeholders, will join us in this important endeavour. We believe that through collaboration, partnership and engagement, we can manage to bring about transformational change in the Biome that will result increasingly sustainable production”.
