R$10M JBS Fund for the Amazon investment in new cattle ranching innovation hub

New JUNTOS/Together: People + Forests + Livestock program will support inclusion of small Amazon producers in low-carbon livestock farming

The JBS Fund for the Amazon has announced R$10 million investment in the creation of a new cattle ranching innovation hub in the Amazon. The initiative aims to reposition small farmers in the beef production chain providing traceability from birth, degraded pasture recovery and the opportunity for small producers to double their income.

Calves with traceability from birth will be delivered in a partnership scheme to participating small beef cattle producers, who will be paid according to cattle weight gain over a 12 month period. The goal, according to the fund, is to serve up to 3,500 families in the next ten years with a total investment of R$100 million and a monitored area of more than 350 thousand hectares, with more than 50 thousand hectares of recovered pasture.

“It is about the inclusion of a new commercial actor.” said Andrea Azevedo, executive director of the JBS Fund for the Amazon. “It will play the role that perhaps a cooperative would do, which is to help these producers with technical assistance, traceability support and herd management that improves profitability while enabling degraded pasture recovery.”
