JBS Canada exceeds 2020 sustainability targets and sets out next steps

At JBS Canada, it all starts with hard-working ranches and farm families who are dedicated to raising the highest quality breeds. We have proactively set meaningful sustainable food preparation targets that balance three pillars, social responsibility, environmental stewardship and long-term performance of the business. We recently published the ‘Destination 2020 – JBS Sustainability Report’ to outline the progress we have made, goals exceeded and to detail our commitments moving forward.

To define our 2020 sustainability targets, we conducted a Corporate Materiality Analysis (CMA) that identified key areas that will advance overall sustainability performance. We then set out a detailed implementation strategy, taking learnings from data from 2013-2015 to set data-informed goals to reach by 2020.

By the end of 2019, we exceeded our targets for gas usage, energy saving, carbon emissions, water usage and animal welfare. Further details are available on the JBS Canada website.

“JBS Canada continues to make strategic investments, implement enhanced operating procedures and enable our valued team members” said Celio Fritche, General Manager, JBS Canada. “This has allowed us to make great strides and we are determined to continue to improve and reach new targets in the coming years.”

JBS Canada is also a founding member of the Canadian Roundtable on Sustainable Beef (CRSB). Due to continued success, we have also recently been endorsed as a 100% Canadian beef facility with the ability to create and deliver sustainable beef certified programs and services. As one of the largest beef processors across Canada, the certification further demonstrates JBS Canada’s commitment to advancing sustainability across the Canadian beef chain.
