COVID-19 update from Global CEO
Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, JBS has remained committed to feeding people around the world. As guaranteeing the supply of foods is essential to our well-being, we have put into place a number of safety measures across our plants globally to ensure that health and safety is non-negotiable as we work to feed the population at a time when food is needed the most.
We follow strict protocols and measures across our plants, distribution centres, stores and offices ranging from social distancing, provision of PPE and leave has been granted to those recognised as being high risk. In Brazil we have even brought on board leading physicians specializing in infectious diseases specifically to support the development of a robust protocol against Covid-19.
We have also made the commitment to maintain our over 240,000 job positions worldwide and want to thank our team members and those across our supply chain for their dedication in enabling high quality food to continue to reach homes across the world. We appreciate your ongoing professionalism.
We have also announced a donation of $120m (£97.5m) to help fight the pandemic in the communities of our team members across the world. In Brazil we will invest $70m (£55.7m) to combat COVID-19 on three fronts across 17 states.
- Donations to support public health
- Social assistance
- Scientific research and development
The initiatives in Brazil will be coordinated by Joanita Maestri Karoleski, former CEO of Seara, and audited by Grant Thornton, a global consultancy with over 100 years of experience. The auditing company waived its fees to contribute in the company’s fight against COVID-19.
$50m will be donated to JBS communities outside of Brazil (£41.8.m), primarily in the United States. It includes donations to provide food assistance, meet critical infrastructure needs and to support other COVID-19 related response efforts.
“The world is experiencing an unprecedented challenge as we collectively face the coronavirus pandemic,” said Gilberto Tomazoni, Global CEO of JBS. “At JBS, we are guided by our culture and feel a responsibility to contribute to society and make a difference in people’s lives by helping our communities confront this social crisis.”
We will continue to work to keep our teams safe and supplying food to the world. We hope that you and your loved ones remain healthy at this time.
